Each of the sacraments is grounded in the words and action of Jesus and in the traditions of the Christian Community. As Catholics, we believe that Jesus instituted the seven sacraments by his teaching and example. Through the sacraments, we receive grace, God's presence and help in our lives. The sacraments draw us closer to God, build up the Church, give worship to God, and satisfy our human hunger for God. 

Sacrament of Baptism

Baptism begins our life in the Church, frees us from original sin, takes away any personal sins and gives grace to live as Christians. We are reborn of the water and the Spirit and share in the life of the risen Jesus. Baptism is the most important gift we can give our children. It gives them a "new life" in water and the Spirit and affirms them as members of the parish community. We offer Baptismal class once a month for parents with a child to be baptized. This provides a wonderful opportunity for parents to review the sacrament and to receive support in living the Catholic faith within their family. Registration for the class is required.

Sacrament of The Eucharist

The Eucharist is the heart and center of our Catholic faith. It is a celebration of our unity with each other and with the risen Christ. The Eucharist, also called the Holy sacrifice of the Mass, is more than just a meal. The Catholic community gather around the Lord's Table to remember and make present again the sacrifice of Jesus, who gave his life for us on the cross. The celebration of the Eucharist, or Mass has two main parts. The first part is the Liturgy of the Word, in which God speaks to us through the Scriptures. The second part is the Liturgy of the Eucharist, in which the bread and wine, consecrated by the Priest, become the Body and Blood of Christ. We eat and drink the consecrated bread and wine, which are Christ's Body and Blood, his very life shared with us, as commanded by Jesus on the night before he died. As Catholics, we believe that Christ is truly present in the Eucharist.

Sacrament of Confirmation

Confirmation is a 2-year process. Teen must attend youth group the 1st year and confirmation/youth group the 2nd year.

In confirmation, we reaffirm for ourselves our baptismal promises, renew our commitment to the Catholic faith and accept our responsibilities as followers of Jesus. During the celebration, the Bishop lays his hand on the head of the one to be confirmed and anoints the forehead with Chrism (Holy Oil). These actions seal us with the gift of the Holy Spirit and signify our participation in Christ's ministry. Confirmation classes are open to students from 6th - 12th grade. The students must attend the classes in order to be Confirmed in the Spring.

Sacrament of Reconciliation

When we sin, we make a conscious choice to turn away from God and one another. Through the sacrament of Reconciliation, we can experience a conversion, a turning back to God and the Church community. We talk to the Priest about what we have done wrong, expressing our sorrow and our willingness to change. The Priest blesses us and says the words of absolution, forgiving us our sins in the name of Jesus and the Church.

St. Anthony's offers this Sacrament on Saturdays from 3pm-4pm or BY APPOINTMENT

Sacrament of Marriage

In the Roman Catholic Church tradition, we recognize marriage as a sacrament, that is, a practice identified by Jesus which enriches the Church community. Thus, this sacrament means more than a wedding rite; it designates the lifelong relationship of husband and wife. Marriage is not so much something that a couple receives as something a couple becomes. When two people marry, it becomes an important moment for the Church community and the Church has a responsibility to guide couples in preparation for life together.

Contact the parish 6 months or more before the proposed wedding date. Couples are expected to contact the pastor at least six months in advance of the date on which they hope to celebrate their wedding. Only the pastor or parish secretary may book the date. Dates will be booked only after the pastor has had sufficient opportunity to meet with the engaged couple, to take care of necessary paperwork and to arrange for their participation in a marriage preparation program. It is the responsibility of the engaged couple to secure the date with the church before making commitments with caterers, reception halls, etc.

Advance preparation is required of every couple wishing to be married in the Catholic Church. This includes meeting with your priest or deacon, attending sacramental preparation classes, attending NFP classes, meeting with a sponsor couple to discuss the Prepare-Enrich inventory, and planning the wedding liturgy.

Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick

This sacrament brings Jesus' healing, comfort and strength to those who are seriously ill or in danger of death through the Priest, who offers God's mercy, strength and healing in Jesus' name. The Anointing of the Sick can be celebrated individually (at home, in the hospital, in a care facility, etc.) or communally during a mass. The sacrament of reconciliation can precede it. The Priest places his hands on the person's head as a sign of Christ's presence and healing. He anoints the person's forehead and hands with blessed oil. He prays that Jesus will bring healing, peace and strength to the sick person. The body and blood of Christ are our greatest signs of Christ's dying and rising. After the anointing, a person who is in danger of death may receive the Eucharist as viaticum, "food for the journey" to eternal life with God. A priest is available to bring this sacrament of healing to anyone who is seriously ill.
