3rd Annual Young Adult Event – Revival NW

PORTLAND, ORE. – The Southeast Vicariate will also offer a separate free event for young adults, Revival
NW, with Ennie Hickman and Josh Blakesley, on Friday, March 9th, 2012 at St. Pius X. The event runs
from 7:30PM – 9:30PM; doors open at  7:00PM.  The evening will  begin with praise and worship,
followed by a keynote and concluding with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

St. John Newman

Today is the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord!

This is the 4th Mystery of the Joyful Mysteries set of the Rosary depicting when Mary and Joseph took Jesus to be presented in the temple as was customary in those days.  When praying the rosary, the fruit of the mystery is generally stated as being obedience.  Mary and Joseph were obedient and presented Jesus in the temple.  Of great note here are the testimonies of Simeon and Anna.  if you have a chance, meditation on them.  They truly point to Jesus being the Messiah… the savior, God Himself in human form.  Whenever you have a chance to meditate on this it fills the heart with joy. it is the basis of our faith.  This reading along with two others can be found HERE.  You can also find information on HERE and why it is also called Candlemas HERE.

Welcome back everyone!  We are looking forward to a great Semester!  We’re having a planning meeting Sunday at St. Anthony’s at 10:30 ish (right after the 9:30 AM Mass and we’ll have free food) to talk about what we have planned, vote on some things and welcome new ideas.

The weekly bible study set! We’ve decided on 10:30 Sunday morning in the Youth room at Church to make the scheduling easy for everyone, and we will of course have continental breakfast food every week free of charge.  our bible studies have been so fruitful this past semester… it is exciting to start them up again!

In the works are a young adult rally with other Newman Clubs, movie nights, opportunities to meet other Newman clubs,  social gatherings and opportunities for serving others especially the elderly. If you can’t make it, watch this space for the New Calendar!

We’ve got a great group this Semester and a full officer lineup… Let’s welcome Carlos, Kayla, and Blake!

I hope your vacation is going well… and that you are getting a lot of time with family and old friends. I hope you are getting a lot of time with God too! Prayer time can be difficult when busy, but when we aren’t as busy it is a good time to get into the habit again– to relax and soak in His Presence! For me, that works the best at Daily Mass- receiving Jesus in a physical way– there is nothing like it!  Some people like to read from the bible everyday.. there are a lot of options!

Today– the Third Day of Christmas– is the Feast of St. John the Evangelist. He is the Apostle and Gospel Writer from who, many argue, we get the most accurate image of Christ, especially in His great Love and desire to be close to us. Here is the collect for the Day that you can say as a prayer:

O God, who through the blessed Apostle John have unlocked for us the secrets of your Word, grant, we pray, that we may grasp with proper understanding what he has so marvelously brought to our ears. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
